In a recent study, researchers found that mindful meditation increased creativity and helped people solve problems faster. Wouldn’t you love to be more creative and productive? The study suggests training your brain for at least six weeks to increase your skill set and avoid being blinded by your experiences. Mindfulness allows you to see simple, novel solutions to the challenges you face in your life and your creative work.
There are several low cost ways to work on your mindfulness without taking too much time from your busy schedule. If you have a smart phone, you can download one of the following apps:
- Guided Meditation using the Silva Method (Free) This app uses the Silva method to help train your mind. You can read more about the Silva method here. I’ve tried Silva tapes before and the process and ideology behind the method is interesting. I would suggest reading up about the Silva method before using this app.
- Simply Being – Guided Meditation for Relaxation and Presence by Meditation oasis (99 cents) This is a guided meditation which allows you to decide how loud you want the music to be, whether you want to listen to someone talking or whether you just want to listen to nature for a span of 5, 10,15 or 20 minutes. The app uses a woman’s voice with an American accent.
- Calm Meditation Mindfulness by Calm.com (Free App) This is a very pretty app. Being a visual person, I loved the videos. You can watch a video of rain, the ocean or a lake. The app uses a woman’s voice with an American accent and is very professionally done.
If you want to download audio recordings for your mp3 player, you can download free guided meditations from UCLA Health and the University of Vermont or if you like, you can read a free Introductory to mindfulness by the City University of london.
